Food items are consumable items which can be eaten to reduce hunger, with some foods having a chance of additional effects. Eating food requires spending a number of turns dependent on the size of the food. Wearing a Ring of Hunger will allow food to be consumed faster.

Standard FoodEdit

Standard Food can be found generated in the dungeon or dropped as loot by creatures.

Monster InnardsEdit

Monster Innards have a chance of being dropped as loot when a creature is slain. Monster innards will spoil over time. Eating spoiled monster innards provides reduced calories and carry a chance to cause sickness. Spoiled monster innard descriptions include smelly and rotten. Given time, spoiled monster innards will eventually disintegrate completely.

Note that rotten food appears to have about 1/4 the calories of fresh food.  A piece of rotten sewer rat meat was made into a pie.  The pie had 1500 calories and was safe to eat.  The implication is that rotten meat can be safely made into pies.

Most pies appear to be 1500 calories with the exception of the giant pie.

A bit of kobold innards was made into a pie.  It had 1500 calories.  Eating the pie resulted in sickness.  The implication is that if food is naturally harmful, then pies made out of the food will also be harmful.  Be  careful, because after eating the pie, you will be full.  Subsequently, eating an apple to cure the sickness will result in choking.  That royally sucks.

PiesEdit

Pies can be obtained by bringing either a standard food or a monster innard to the Baker NPC and paying to have a pie baked out of it. This may not require its own section, however some pies have special effects and could be listed in the table above as found.

TipsEdit

The benefit of standard foods never spoiling should be maximized by saving and not eating those foods until the character is in danger of becoming weak from hunger or its special effect is needed (carrots, apples, etc).

When not satiated, it is generally best to eat 'safe' monster innards as soon as they are dropped, especially those that can bestow useful intrinsic abilities.

The Gastronomy talent increases the size of monster innards dropped by slain creatures. This is a hinderance to the late game.

Hungry pets will eat many monster innards left on the floor. Make sure that any wanted food items are picked up before they have a chance to do so. The food can always be fed to the pet manually if desired.
