Blacksmith Service

List of services.

The forge is run by the blacksmith, a dwarven trader who can be found in random locations throughout the dungeon. His room appears as a forge with him standing behind steel bars at a service window, with an ogre working the bellows for him. He will appear as an anvil icon on the map and mini-map.

Armour and weapons can be sold to the blacksmith at a higher price compared to selling to a shopkeeper. The blacksmith usually has more gold to barter with and it is also often better to have store credit at his shop for future services.

Location[]

  • Depths of 230 meters and lower. More than one forge may be present in the dungeon.

Services[]

"How can I be of service?"

Prices will vary based on the charisma stat and commerce skill:

  • Buy and sell - Weapons and armour only (cloaks not included);
  • Appraise weapon (10-60 gold) - Select a weapon from the inventory and it will be identified, plus he will give additional info about the damage and use in a text box. The blessed/uncursed/cursed status however, will not be identified;
  • Appraise armour (20-125 gold) - Select an armour piece from the inventory and it will be identified. The blessed/uncursed/cursed status however, will not be identified;
  • Rustproof equipment (90-600 gold) - Select a metal type equipment (from helms to arrows) and they will become rustproof. Any pre-existing rust on the item will also be removed. Whistles may also be selected;
  • Adjust armour size (350-2300 gold) - Select an armour and have it resized to fit you. If you are a barbarian or a vandal, he will ask you for a second item for the needed extra material. Note: A suit of crystal plate armour cannot be resized since it is "hewn from a single piece."
  • Forge a mighty weapon (700-4600 gold) - To forge a mighty weapon, select a weapon (including musical instruments!) and a ring. The enchantment will be applied to the weapon, the ring will be destroyed, and the forged weapon will have the (immutable) attribute. Legendary weapons may not be forged. The blacksmith will say it is beyond his skill to work with;
  • Forge a powerful suit of armour (900-5800 gold) - Select an armour chest piece and an amulet. The enchantment will be applied to the armour, the amulet will be destroyed, and the forged armour will have the (Immutable) attribute. Alternatively select dragon scales and get a +0 dragon scale mail suit of the respective color, no amulet required. The number of scales required depends on the character's size. Legendary armour may not be forged. The blacksmith will say it is beyond his skill to work with.

Attacking[]

  • Although the blacksmith can be targeted, he cannot be attacked under normal means;
  • Similar to the jeweller, the blacksmith has to baited out of his shop. Drop an offense magical gem in front of him (e.g. a frost gem) to provoke him into leaving his shop. He will then teleport out of his shop as a dwarf lord;
  • His shop can be ransacked by picking up items from the left side of the shop. Which included all items in the shop and 3,000 gold of the initial forge funds;
  • The ogre in the shop cannot be attacked.

Tips[]

  • Weapons and armour can normally be enchanted up to +7 using scrolls of enchant weapon or armour. Reforging weapons and armour allows one to exceed the +7 limit to reach +8. A giant club +10 received from a giant skeleton is able to be upgraded to +11;
  • Contrary to rumors, the enchantment level of the weapon does not transfer to the ring - it retains its original numerical value;
  • The enchantment stat bonuses of a ring is retained when reforging it into a weapon. It may be prudent to max the enchantment of a ring before reforging it into a magical weapon (e.g. a +7 ring of gain strength when reforged into a weapon will still provide a +7 bonus to strength when the weapon is equipped, likewise if it was a +1 ring of gain strength, it would only provide a +1 bonus to strength);
  • However, it can be advantageous to bind a ring to a weapon with a low modifier if it has a numerical value. The ring's value will rise with the weapon afterwards, theoretically allowing for a +23 ring value at maximum if a +7 ring is bound to a -9 weapon which is then enchanted to +7;
  • Binding an amulet of life saving when creating powerful armour will crumble it into dust if it is triggered.
