The dust vortex is found in the upper and mid-sections of the dungeon. They are nearly immune to all kind of attacks and can partially block player movement. It has a pummel attack, which can shatter potions at close melee range. They can pass through closed doors and do not leave corpses nor food.

Dust vortices have been observed to have the following abilities or behaviours:
- Alignment: Neutral;
- Attack: Pummel. Can destroy potions in inventory;
- Deaf: Immune to the effects of magical instruments;
- Resistance: Confusion;
- Resistance: Cold;
- Resistance: Poison;
- Resistance: Physical attack;
- Resistance: Shock.
- Resistance: Sleep.
- Weakness: Cancellation;
- Weakness: Water.
Tips[]
- Due to its pummel attack and its possibility to block the player in groups of monsters, try to stay away from it;
- It can be destroyed with a single zap or throwing a wand of cancellation;
- Throwing a bottle of water can destroy it if the bottle breaks near the vortex. Objects thrown at the vortex will pass directly through it without damage;
- Offensive spells such as magic missile and force bolt may be of use, although it may take several zaps compared to other alternatives;
- Use a wand of teleportation as a temporary measure, if better methods are not yet available.
